On August 30th, 2022, Habitat for Humanity Northumberland announced that their Finish A Home fundraising campaign exceeded their goal by $16,000. This fundraiser asks donors to “purchase” the finishes needed to complete a Habitat home currently under construction. Donors picked from a list of items including toilets, sinks, light fixtures, and flooring and then contributed the equivalent cost of those items as a cash donation.
This year’s campaign goal was $20,000, and $36,760 was received by the end of the day on August 28th. Since this fundraising campaign began in 2020, it has raised over $69,760 towards the completion of 4 different Habitat homes in Northumberland.
“We were just blown away by the support we received this year,” explained Melissa Cranston, Community & Fund Development Coordinator for Habitat Northumberland. “We are so thankful for a community that continues to help their neighbours and support the construction of affordable housing.”
This campaign focused on the finishes needed for a Habitat home currently under construction in the village of Hastings. This project started in the spring and volunteers have been working throughout the summer months on this single detached raised bungalow. The house is slated for completion before the end of the fall and will soon be purchased and turned into an affordable home by a local Habitat family.
“The surplus of funds raised for this fundraiser will be allocated to additional building materials needed to complete the project,” said Meaghan Macdonald, Executive Director. “Generous donations such as these help us to continue our mandate of helping local families build strength, stability, and independence through affordable homeownership.”
