HFHN and Northumberland County launches 2022 Northumberland Renovates Program

Cobourg, ON – August 22, 2022 – Northumberland County and Habitat for Humanity Northumberland are launching the 2022 Northumberland Renovates program. Northumberland Renovates, a component of the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative, is funded by the provincial and federal governments. First launched in 2017, the program has provided 70 forgivable loans totaling approximately $ 864,485 to eligible local low-income homeowners to complete urgent repairs and accessibility upgrades to date. This year $150,000 will be available for eligible low-income local homeowners. The program is once again being administered by Habitat for Humanity Northumberland.

“Since 2017, this critical funding has provided 70 homeowners with the opportunity to complete urgent home repairs and accessibility modifications. We are thrilled to continue working with Northumberland County to deliver this fantastic program,” indicated Habitat for Humanity Northumberland Executive Director Meaghan Macdonald. “This program is an example of one of the ways Habitat works with community partners to support initiatives that fulfill our vision where everyone has a decent place to live.”

“The Northumberland Renovates program provides an innovative approach to improving the safety and affordability of housing in Northumberland,” states County Director of Community & Social Services Lisa Horne. “The County is pleased to continue our partnership with Habitat for Humanity Northumberland on this important initiative to reduce barriers to access and increase the availability of safe and inclusive housing options throughout Northumberland. We look forward to continuing these collaborative efforts to deliver adaptive housing supports that are tailored to meet the varying needs of community members.”
